Pampered.

Ramara felt pampered and spoiled like a desperately wanted firstborn infant.

After their shower, where she barely had the energy to stand while he washed her from head to toe with his shower gel—so this was why he smelled so good!—and washed her hair until she thought he would put her in a coma, Ax wrapped her up in a long, luxurious terry robe—“What hotel did you steal this from?” “None.” He’d laughed—carried her in his arms like a treasured baby and settled her on the bed.

After he peeled off the robe and hung it back up in the bathroom, he’d joined her in bed, naked and warm, reclining on his right side to face her.

He rested his head in his right hand, cupped her right cheek with his left hand, and gently caressed her face with his thumb.

Ramara was so comfortable and relaxed, he caught her totally off guard when he asked, “So you’ll remember to be more forthcoming when I ask you a simple question?”

Ah, she saw his game now. Lull her into a false sense of security with his elaborate tender loving care, making her believe he had forgotten all about the transgression that had led to her punishment, and just when she thought it was safe to go into the woods, the wolf pounced.

Ramara tried to hide her mutinous expression, not wanting to seem like a recalcitrant child, and not wanting to earn another spanking so soon. She wanted to argue, even after her punishment, but she was feeling too damn good to rock the boat. Although, there had been nothing simple about the question that had started it all. And for someone as private and suspicious as her, she didn’t have a simple answer to his simple question.

Didn’t men get away with it all the time, saying “nothing” to the infamous “What are you thinking”? Maybe she wouldn’t have earned a spanking had she gone with that. Or maybe Ax wouldn’t have been satisfied and wouldn’t have let her off the hook so easily. Maybe he would have followed up with another question.

In the end, she’d demurred, deflected, and thrown up her old reliable barriers when she knew Ax had only wanted to get to know her better.

“Yes,” she finally responded.

Ax looked at her as if he didn’t believe her or as if he was tempted to repeat his question like a marine drill sergeant—I can’t hear you!—but was weighing the options of going through the rigmarole again so soon after her punishment—or was it funishment?—although it would have been the perfect opportunity for him to see if she had learned her lesson. Not that she’d bring up the latter.

“Tell me more about Anika.”

“Slick.”

“Who, me?”

“I’ll tell you about Anika if you tell me why you froze up when I said low class earlier.”

So he wasn’t going to let it go, at least not all of it. Dog with a bone. “I would think that my reasons were fairly obvious.”

“Not to me.”

Ramara watched him and waited a moment for things to sink in.
